Favourite Of The Week ~ Greg Neufeld "Your Eyes"

I'm well past due posting a favourite of the week. As I've been trying to get back on track with pursuing my art and writing, which was waylaid for the past several months due to other responsibilities and demands on my time, I've been trying to stimulate and nurture those creative juices. Music is always a good source of inspiration or just a great way to lift my mood when I'm stuck in a creative rut or rough patch.

Before I lead into my favourite song of the week, I have to fill in a bit of background information. I'm not a big fan of reality TV but last year I found myself hooked on watching season five of Canadian Idol. That was the year when local Abbotsford, BC musician Greg Neufeld made it into the top ten and amidst a buzz of controversy was voted off in seventh place. In the end, a fellow Hamiltonian Brian Melo won the title of Canadian Idol. Last week, I had the pleasure of seeing both Greg Neufeld and Brian Melo play live here at a small, local Arts Centre venue.

Greg Neufeld opened the show ahead of Tupelo Honey and Brian Melo. I have to say that, for me, Greg's performance was the highlight of the evening. We got a taste of his voice and guitar playing on Canadian Idol but it was nothing compared to the experience of seeing and hearing him perform live and unplugged in a small, intimate venue. My husband and I had seats smack dab in the center of the theatre with a clear view of the stage. He played several songs from his new CD, which is apparently only being sold at his shows. Sadly, I missed my chance to buy one at the show so I'll have to wait until he releases them for sale online or in stores. I scoured the internet for anything I could find and the best I could locate was Greg's MySpace Page which has two songs from the CD, "Secret" and my favourite of the week-- "Your Eyes", available for listening to online.
