It's true. I am guilty of intentional acts of audacious alliteration. The very haiku that graces the top left column of my blog and source for my blog title is proof enough of my borderline abusive alliteration addiction. Moments matter most indeed. I love alliteration almost as much as I adore puns. I admit overuse of alliteration can be annoying but when done well it emphasizes a point, mood, or particular train of thought and sounds lovely rolling off the tip of your tongue as you read aloud. I may or may not be known to read aloud, even when alone, just to hear the words and sounds flow together as I write.
Without my Muse there would be no acts of annoying alliteration or secret poetry readings for one. Sometimes she/he (I can't pin a definitive gender on my Muse) goes MIA for periods of time leaving me to wonder if I've lost "it" and if I'll ever push pixels or play with words again. My fickle Muse always returns, though never on -my- schedule, and I'm soon back to my creative tinkering and puttering with a rejuvenated vigor.
Us offbeat creative types share this dreaded affliction, which I like to refer to as MMIAS (Muse Missing In Action Syndrome.) I happened upon an article about this dire disease, also known as "Creativity's Pause Button", on the Creativity Portal website.
Here is a snippet of the article. To read the rest just click on the link that follows.
"Creativity is a cycle. There is a part of that cycle that requires no activity and sometimes is not voluntary. It is that phase of the creative process that Rollo May terms “data collection.” It appears that nothing is happening because nothing visible IS happening. But the subconscious is sweeping the floor, restocking the idea inventory, plugging in the connectors, associators, divergers and convergers." ~ Romancing the Lull: Creativity’s Pause Button By Jill Badonsky, M.Ed.
Just 3 weeks left to play with words and try your hand at tickling my funny bone with a Witku. Please refer to the original contest post for details.

A Wristwatch Day & Another Lesson Learned

Yesterday was a live by my wristwatch day thus no creative time for writing or pushing pixels. I’m literally stealing a bit of time now to sit down and write this post before diving into my studies and tackling the list of phone calls to be made to set up various appointments for my son.
On the positive side, I’ve been thinking about topics for future posts to share here on the blog. On the not so positive side, my new love and I haven’t had enough time to get to know each other better. It would be worse if the delivery of archival paper had arrived but it’s still en route. I anticipate it’s arrival sometime next week and am hoping to catch up on all the other tasks on my to do list so I’ll be able to spend some quality time with my Pro 9000.
The issue of time management and my fly by the seat of my pants way of tackling things has been on my mind a lot the past two weeks. I’ve finally given in and will be hiring a bookkeeper to take over the financial reporting for my son’s Microboard. I’ve been doing the work of the treasurer and the secretary for the Non-Profit Society since its creation.
There has always been a bit of an internal tug of war going on inside of me with regard to my creative side and my business side. I believe this is my year to find a viable balance between the two. Realizing that spending hours going over financial transactions and statements isn’t an effective use of my time and that it’s okay to delegate that responsibility to someone else is a big step in the right direction.
Has this been another life lesson about learning to let go? Perhaps, but in this case it’s a calculated and controlled form of letting go. Less stress and paperwork means more creative time. More creative time means a more relaxed and happy me.
If you haven't entered a Witku in the contest, now is the time to be creative and have fun playing with words to create a funny haiku that'll tickle my funny bone or at least make me smile.

Shattered - Word Offering
I've decided to start posting the haiku, senryu and other verse I write here on my professional blog. I generally only post these on my personal Northern Ruminations blog but think it important to share here as well.
Like many creative people, I struggle with finding time for my art and writing. My life is very full and can easily pull me off in other directions, leaving little or no time for quiet reflection or creative pursuits. When I'm caught up in all the hustle and bustle and rushing around something as simple as a broken glass can remind me to stop, slow down and be in the moment.
Shards of broken glass
Such perfect shattered moments
Force me to slow down
